Using the zonal momentum budget, Prof. Yang Zhang and I quantified the contributions of different dynamical processes to the interannual variability of the East Asian Jet and revealed a distinct upstream and downstream controlling mechanism. In addition, we found significant covariance between the East Asian Jet and the Pacific Subtropical Ocean Front. The mechanism is summarized in the figure below.
